The 29-year-old, who once again showed incredible resilience in the absence of his best form, becomes the first top seed in the Open Era to play two five-setters in the opening two rounds of a Grand Slam. He'll face 25th seed Alejandro Tabilo next.

05:20 CET - Elena Rybakina makes quick work of Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, 6-2, 6-4, as she advances to the third round of the US Open for the fourth time in her career.
This marks Rybakina's 44th win of 2026 as she's now three more away from becoming the world No. 1.
04:20 CET - Michael Zheng advances into the third round after defeating Yunchaokete Bu 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Americans, between both men and women, went 7-1 during the day on their home turf.
Zheng makes the third round in his second consecutive Grand Slam after making it this far at Wimbledon earlier in the year.
03:40 CET - Learner Tien knocks off Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 on the men's side, while Arthur Gea eliminates Zachary Svadja despite dropping the first set 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
03:20 CET - Coco Gauff takes down Paula Badosa in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5)! This marks eight straight match wins and 16 straight set wins for Gauff.
She now advances to her sixth third round at the US Open as she earns her 42nd win of the year.
Gauff is moving on to face Cristina Bucsa. The last time the two faced each other was in 2023 at Indian Wells when Gauff won in straight sets (6-2, 6-4).
In other women's matches, Yuliia Starodubtseva completes the comeback to defeat Maria Sakkari 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-2, while American Iva Jovic advances after beating Francesca Jones 6-4, 6-4.
02:50 CET - Botic Van de Zandschulp upsets world No. 7 Alex de Minaur in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2, for his second top-10 win of 2026!
Second-round upsets at the US Open are nothing new for Van de Zandschulp, as he knocked off world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz in 2024, also in straight sets.
He now has the chance to advance to the quarter-finals of the US Open for the second time in his career (2021) as he awaits the winner between Zizou Bergs and Jesper De Jong.

01:05 CET - Benjamin Bonzi upsets Ignacio Buse after bageling him in the final set, which took only 25 minutes: 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-0.
This now marks back-to-back years advancing to the third round of the US Open for Bonzi, and his third time in the past four years.
00:55 CET - Mirra Andreeva makes quick work of Eva Lys, defeating her 6-0, 6-2 in 63 minutes following a 20-minute first set. After losing in the second round of the US Open in 2023 and 2024, Andreeva now makes it back-to-back years advancing to the third round.
Her next matchup will be Nikola Bartunkova.
00:10 CET - Staying on the men's side, Alexander Blockx defeats Marco Trungelliti 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Meanwhile, Alejandro Tabilo completes the comeback against Alexei Popyrin 2-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(3), 6-2.
For the women's side, Zheng Qinwen defeats Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 as she'll take on Madison Keys in the next round. In another match, Cristina Bucsa avoids an upset after a three-hour match with Himeno Sakatsume 7-6(6), 6(0)-7, 7-6 (6).
23:45 CET - Men's fifth seed and French Open finalist, Flavio Cobolli, has recovered from a first-set wobble to defeat Aussie Tristan Schoolkate 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in his second-round encounter.
23:03 CET - We have another shock to report, with men's 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti being dumped out in the second round by 25-year-old Australian Dane Sweeny, who won their match 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the third round in his first appearance at the US Open!
The 123rd-ranked Aussie wild card has set up a clash with Luciano Darderi in the next round.
22:58 CET - Staying with Czechs, men's 17th seed Jakub Mensik has overcome Jurij Rodionov of Austria 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to proceed to the third round.
22:50 CET - 20-year-old Czech Nikola Bartunkova has downed veteran Tatjana Maria, who is just about double her age, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the third round on the women's side.
21:54 CET - Home favourite and men's ninth seed Taylor Fritz has waltzed through to the third round in New York, after thrashing Italian Mattia Bellucci 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 in just over 90 minutes.
Seldom do you see a men's Grand Slam match so one-sided... Fritz fired down 11 aces and won 86% of his first-serve points in the demolition job. The American, who is yet to drop a set at the US Open, will next take on Francisco Cerundolo in the third round.
Over on the women's side, 17th seed Alexandra Eala has moved into the third round after easing past Oleksandra Oliynykova 6-1, 6-4.
21:05 CET - Back to the men's side, where 21st seed Luciano Darderi has beaten Dalibor Svrcina 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 to rumble on into the third round.
And so has 24th seed Francisco Cerundolo, who edged German veteran Jan-Lennard Struff in a five-set epic, 5-7, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, with the match lasting just shy of four hours.
20:43 CET - 10th seed Amanda Anisimova is through to the third round on the women's side after battling past rising teen star Lilli Tagger, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Last year's losing finalist will next take on Anastasia Potapova in the third round.
Austria's Potapova earlier defeated Leolia Jeanjean of France 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
20:27 CET - Men’s third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime has been dumped out of the US Open by Russian Karen Khachanov, who has won their titanic second-round battle 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in just under three-and-a-half hours.
The Canadian is thus the highest seed to fall on either the men’s or women’s side so far in Flushing Meadows! 2022 semi-finalist Khachanov marches on into the third round.
20:10 CET - Former US Open finalist Madison Keys has roared back to beat Hungary's Anna Bondar 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(5) and advance to the third round after saving no less than FIVE match points!
The home hope was pushed all the way by Bondar but got over the line, despite giving up 50 unforced errors in an up-and-down display. Keys will next take on the winner of Zheng Qinwen and Yulia Putintseva.
Czech 25th seed Marie Bouzkova is also through to the third round after crushing Harriet Dart 6-2, 6-2. Bouzkova has the daunting task of taking on Iga Swiatek next.
19:46 CET - Naomi Osaka has overcome a second-set wobble to beat doubles queen Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 and march into the third round of the US Open.
The Japanese two-time winner won 78% of her first serve points and sent down 11 aces in the second-round win over the Czech. The 13th seed will next take on Belgian Elise Mertens, who also won today.
18:55 CET - Belgian 23rd seed Elise Mertens is through to the US Open third round for the eighth time in nine years after surviving a spirited fightback from Uzbekistan's Maria Timofeeva to prevail 6-2, 7-6(5).
18:23 CET - Former champion Iga Swiatek has cruised into the third round at Flushing Meadows with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Nadia Podoroska in just 71 minutes.
Having shown signs of her best form during the North American hard-court swing (notably winning in Toronto), the Pole continues to underline her status as one of the favourites for the women's title in New York.
Swiatek converted three of four break-point opportunities against Podoroska in a clinical display, and will face either Marie Bouzkova or Harriet Dart for a place in the last 16.

We're just a couple of hours away from play getting underway in New York, with former champion Iga Swiatek opening up proceedings on Grandstand with a clash against Argentina's Nadia Podoroska.
Also in early action, Naomi Osaka takes on Czech Katerina Siniakova on Arthur Ashe Stadium, while men's third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime meets experienced Russian Karen Khachanov.
Later, in the night session on Arthur Ashe Stadium, home favourite and 2023 champion Coco Gauff takes on former world number two Paula Badosa, before men's top seed Alexander Zverev faces France's Quentin Halys.
Elsewhere, Taylor Fritz, Amanda Anisimova, Alex de Minaur and Mirra Andreeva also take to the court on a star-studded Thursday.
