The Atlas Lions, who had won their matchday one 2-0 against Gabon, registered another 2-0 win against Likuena at the Free State Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein to top Group A.
Brahim Diaz broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, before Azzedine Ounahi made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute to maintain Morocco’s perfect start to the AFCON qualification campaign.
Morocco aim to win ‘all our matches’
“For us, the plan has not changed. It is to try to win all our matches,” said Ouahbi as quoted by Morocco News.
“We have two matches against Niger coming up, and after that we will face Gabon again and then Lesotho at home. So, we will continue with the same plan.
“We know that we are a team with big ambitions. We also know that these matches help us prepare in the best possible way, by giving minutes to players who deserve them and trying certain things.
“The most important thing, in my opinion, is that we play these matches, whoever the opponent is, with great seriousness. That is what we have been doing from the beginning, and we will continue in the same way.”
Morocco wanted good start
On making it two wins out of two in the qualifiers, Ouahbi said: “It was important for us to take six points from these two matches. We wanted to make a good start.
“There are many positive things, but there are also areas we still need to develop and improve.
“We controlled the game throughout, but on a pitch like this, we needed to be very precise technically, particularly with our passing, build-up play and approach toward the opponent’s goal.”
Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou said: “We managed the game well, and the players put in a great performance. It was not an easy match, even though the opponent was not at the same level as the Moroccan team.
“When you play away from home, things are always difficult, especially with a pitch that does not help you play your football. They (Lesotho) stayed very focused, and I congratulate them for that.”
Morocco have six points while Lesotho remain without a point after successive defeats, having gone down 2-1 against Niger in their first match.
