24-year-old Elias Ellefsen á Skipagotu began his professional career in his home country with H71 during the 2019-20 season before moving to the Swedish club IK Sävehof in the summer of 2020. From there, he moved to the German powerhouse THW Kiel in 2023, and this coming summer, á Skipagotu will join the squad of the reigning Danish champions, Aalborg Handball.
"With Elias on the roster, we are adding a world-class player who, in recent seasons, has been a pivotal figure at THW Kiel and a key part of the success story of the Faroese national team. His technique, game intelligence, and ability in one-on-one situations are among his many strengths; furthermore, despite his age, he has repeatedly shown that he is not afraid to take responsibility in crucial moments," says Aalborg Handball Team Manager Martin Larsen.
"We are therefore extremely excited to see him on the court in the red jersey. Playing alongside our other backcourt players, he will be part of a very strong group that aims to bring us even closer to our stated goal of winning the EHF Champions League," Martin Larsen adds.
Elias Ellefsen á Skipagotu himself did not doubt that a move to Aalborg Handball was the logical next step in his career when the opportunity arose.
"Aalborg is undoubtedly the biggest and best-run club in the Nordic region, so naturally, becoming part of it was an attractive prospect for me. That is why it was my top priority when the opportunity for a transfer came up."
"The goal of reaching the top in Europe also really appeals to me, so I look forward to becoming part of an exciting squad with many other talented players, and hopefully contributing to bringing more titles to the club," says Elias Ellefsen á Skipagotu, who has so far made 31 official appearances for the Faroe Islands national team.
